Sisters in Service

Support & Connection

Are you a female veteran of the UK Armed Forces, Regular or Reserves, now working in healthcare, whether for the NHS or privately?

Our mission is to create a safe and supportive network where members can connect, share experiences, and access resources that address their unique challenges. We aim to offer a range of services, from emotional and professional support to career development opportunities for female veterans in healthcare. We have members from all 3 Armed Forces services in roles such as clinical education, pharmacy, administration, medicine, nursing, psychotherapy and many more!

Join our safe and inclusive network for mutual support and connection.

Advocacy

Do you work with the Armed Forces Community?

We welcome allies to join our distribution list to aid connection and spread the word about this typically underrepresented and underresearched group of amazing women. Allies receive a copy of our newsletter, and are kept up to date with news and events to help advocate for our community.

Are you currently studying a healthcare degree such as medicine, nursing or an allied health profession course or about to start a new role in healthcare?

We collaborate with our cohort partners to identify female veterans transitioning from the Armed Forces and pursuing careers in healthcare. We connect them with key contacts within NHS Trusts to ensure new joiners are recognised and supported throughout their journey. If you're about to join a Trust on placement or you are about to start your new role and would like to be introduced to a welcoming contact, reach out to us. We have a network across the UK, and if we don’t have a direct connection, we’ll find someone who does. We can also support you through your studies by offering guidance and practical assistance to help you succeed.

Our individualised mentorship program allows members to volunteer as peer mentors for female service leavers preparing to transition into healthcare roles. We strive to pair each Sister leaving the military with someone who has made a similar transition—whether into the same field, the same location, or ideally both. This tailored support aims to provide a more relatable, supportive transition that addresses both professional and emotional challenges of leaving the military and joining a healthcare organisation.
