Congratulations to Dr Bex Bennett on receiving the ‘Championing Women Award’ from the Women’s Network at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
The award nomination, submitted anonymously, highlighted her work with Sisters In Service and the organisation’s ongoing mission to create a safe, supportive and empowering community for women veterans. To be recognised in this way, particularly alongside so many inspiring women across the Trust, made the award especially meaningful.
Sisters In Service was founded with the aim of ensuring women veterans feel seen, heard and connected, something that has historically been lacking within both military and civilian spaces. Through peer support, advocacy, networking and community-building, the organisation continues to grow into a trusted space for women transitioning from military service into public service and civilian life.
Dr Bex said: “I was incredibly honoured and genuinely surprised to receive this recognition. Sisters In Service was created to ensure women veterans feel supported, connected and valued, so to see that work acknowledged in this way means a great deal. I’m proud of the community we are building together and excited to continue growing the organisation over the coming years.”
This recognition reflects not only individual work, but the strength of the wider Sisters In Service community and the impact that can be achieved when women come together to support one another. While awards are never the reason the work begins, moments like this provide an important reminder that creating inclusive, supportive spaces does make a difference and that the voices and experiences of women veterans deserve to be recognised and championed.
